Gary Spencer-Humphrey

           RECOGNISE INSPIRING SOCIAL WORK

Gary has worked within health and care sector since 2003, starting his career as a Healthcare Assistant in the NHS alongside extensive voluntary work with St John Ambulance and a youth offending team. As a change maker, Gary knew his calling was for the caring profession. After completing his law degree, he decided to retrain as a social worker and, sponsored by his employer, he graduated from The Open University in 2016.

Gary’s first post was as a mental health social worker for Hampshire County Council, and while undertaking his Assessed and Supported Year in Employment, he won the Newly Qualified Adult Social Worker of the Year award in 2017. Gary completed his post qualifying training in mental health and became a warranted Approved Mental Health Professional and BIA and now works for a south coast unitary authority as a Team Manager of an Adults and Health team.

Gary is passionate about championing the social worker’s voice in society, exploring community-based social work, building social capital and promoting interest in the profession. He is excited to support the growth of the charity in the future and beyond.
