Ministerial supportNews2011 Awards
"Social workers provide an
invaluable service for vulnerable children and families and have increasingly become the country’s fourth emergency service.

Too often, they have not received the recognition that they deserve,
which is why I support the Social Worker of the Year awards and
hope to see these awards grow in status in the coming years."

Venue announced for Social Work Awards

08 August 2011

If you are a social worker or social work department looking to attend the Social Worker of the Year Awards, it has been announced that the 2011 awards ceremony will take place on Friday 16th December at the House of Lords.

The event, which will be celebrating and recognising the best practice within the social care sector, will also feature a unique question and answer panel discussion with the judging panel. During the discussion (which is eligible for PRTL hours), guests will have the opportunity to ask questions to leading sector figures including Hilton Dawson (BASW), Maurice Bates (the College of Social Work), Andrew Williamson (NHS Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly) and Jane Stacey (Barnardo’s) amongst others.

Beverley Williams, founder of the Social Worker Awards said: “I am absolutely thrilled to announce that the 2011 awards will be taking place in the House of Lords in December. It has been fantastic to see how much the awards have grown this year, and I believe that these awards will soon receive the same recognition as the annual Teacher of the Year awards.”

Tickets to the Social Worker of the Year Awards will be on sale at the end of the month and further details will be announced shortly.

There is still time for practitioners across England to register their entries. The new look awards offer 12 different categories for individual social workers, teams and departments in children’s and adult services and the final closing date is Friday 2nd September.

The Social Worker of the Year Awards are organised by Sanctuary Social Care, the British Association of Social Workers and Community Care with founder Beverley Williams. Sponsors so far include the NSPCC (Children’s Social Worker of the Year), BASW (Lifetime achievement award) and Sanctuary Social Care (Overall social worker of the year).
